Important Update
Weight Loss Injections (Mounjaro® / Tirzepatide) on the NHS
You may have seen news reports about Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) being made available on the NHS to help with weight loss.
This is a new programme and will be rolled out gradually, starting in carefully controlled phases.
Please do not contact the practice about Mounjaro at this time
The first of three phases has started, but it is only available to a very small number of people with serious health issues.
To be eligible for the first stage, you must:
Have a BMI of 40 or more, and have at least four of the following health conditions:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol or high levels of fats in your blood
- Obstructive sleep apnoea (trouble breathing during sleep)
- Heart disease
- Type 2 diabetes
Even if you think you might meet these criteria, please be aware that local rollout may take time. Eligible patients will not be prescribed or receive the treatment straight away.
This early phase is part of a 3-year pilot and will be reviewed by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) before any wider rollout is considered.
Please do not contact the Practice about Mounjaro at this time.
We are still waiting for full details on how it will be offered locally, and we will share updates as soon as we know more.
Other weight loss support services are available through the NHS. See the NHS Better Health site for details.
